Vintage Schecter Van Nuys Era Strat Body
Fender Pro Custom Kingman C Antigua Burst Acoustic Electric USA rare 1 of 75 US $2,099.00 |
Up for auction is this beautiful Schecter Van Nuys era Strat body. It’s a 2 piece ash tremolo body with the telltale F6100 timber code stamped into the neck cavity along with what I assume to be the serial number 7130. It is originally from the personal collection of Richard Oblinger, the Schecter Custom Shop manager during the very early 1980’s. The following is information supplied by Richard's brother Kurt when I purchased this item from him. Thanks to Kurt for this info.
“This piece comes from the collection of my brother, Richard "Obe" Oblinger, who passed away earlier this year. My brother was a custom guitar builder and repairman and was well known in the L.A. area. He started his career at the famous Travis Bean Guitars where he worked from 1975 until the company closed in 1979. While there he worked on guitars for Jerry Garcia, Bill Wyman, Keith Richard, Rory Gallagher, Joe Perry and others. After Bean closed he went to work at Schecter Guitar Research in Van Nuys, Ca. and was the Guitar Shop Manager from 1980 until the shop was moved to Texas. While there he worked alongside Tom Anderson building guitars for the likes of Pete Townsend and Mark Knopfler. When Schecter was bought out and moved to Texas in 1984 he went over to Tobias Guitars. After that he went out on his own building and repairing guitars from his home shop. His client list included Jackson Browne, John Fogarty, David Lindley, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, Stephen Stills and many others. We will be selling off much of his 30+ year collection of guitars and parts including many rare and vintage pieces from Travis Bean, Fender, Gibson, Mossman and others, so check back often for new stuff.”
As (I hope) the photos show this body displays magnificent grain on both the front and back. It has the rarer side jack output leaving the front face unspoiled by front face output rout.
This body has been shaped, sanded and finished with natural oil in gloss which shines well on the paler, smoother sections between the darker grains. The back face of this body is especially stunning with more ‘swirling’ grain patterns.
This piece has been mounted and used for a short time. It is shown in two of the photos with the birdseye maple neck I am also currently (and reluctantly) selling. This auction is for the body only not the rest of the guitar. It is basically in new condition apart from the 8 screw pickguard holes, 2 output jack plate fixing holes, 6 x rear tremolo plate fixing holes and the 3 strap button holes, all standard for VN series Schecters. All of these holes are in the accurate and authentic positions and purists will use these holes again.
Like the neck, this is a reluctant sale for financial reasons. There is nothing wrong with this body, or nothing I dislike about it.
Please ask all questions before bidding and I will answer as soon as I can.
No reserve on this item, so high bidder gets it. Good luck to all.
