Grazie. This auction is for a 1983/84 build Fender Japan Squier Stratocaster SST314H-55 with JV (Japan Vintage) serial and with Les Paul Scale 629mm/24.75 in.
This is very rare guitar with Les Paul scale/629mm/24.75 in. "314" of this model name stands for 314mm which is half of 628(9)mm / 24.75 in of Les Paul scale.
Here in Japan,
Fender regular scale is called "long scale"
Les Paul scale / 628(9)mm, 24.75 in is called "medium scale" or sometimes called "314 scale"
Fender Mustang scale / 610mm, 24 in is called "short scale" or sometimes called "305 scale"
In 1983, Fender Japan issued Squier SST-314 which had medium scale/629mm /24.75 in like Les Paul has.
First,
Fender USA didn't accept that Fender Japan would sell the model with
Fender brand, so they used Squier logo for the model. In 1985, Fender USA
permitted using Fender's brand for the model, but the body material was
shifted from Alder/Ash to Basswood/Sen. Then a few years later the model were shifted to "STM" with smaller body.
I
have often tried later models but they had different sounds from
regular Strats unlike this guitar due to the difference of the body
material.
This guitar is one of The "Squier Contemporary" models with JV serial /series made between 1982 and 1984 by Fujigen.
This one has Squier logo, not Fender logo but Fender Japan made the Les Paul scale guitar only with Squier logo in the earliest days of Fender Japan with JV serial.
In 1982, "Squier" brand was introduced firstly to Europe as less expensive Fender guitars. These "Squier" brand guitars were made in Japan by Fender Japan /Fujigen.
Right after introduced in European market, "Squier" were made for Japanese market too. They had two lines; vintage types and "Contemporary" models.
The former line's guitars were as less expensive based on the Fender Japan vintage models with less expensive parts, but the latter ones were not less expensive models and some of them had higher prices than "Fender" (Japan) models.
For your information, the "Fender Contemporary" models were the first Fender Japan models to be exported officially as Fender Stratocasters and Telecasters, but in JV era (1982-1984), they were sold as Squier only in the domestic market.
According to some information, these " Contemporary" models were produced till 1987.
According to the catalogs during the time, this one is SST314H-55 with Alder body and one piece maple neck, rosewood fretboards.

This model is not shown in the 85's catalog, so is believed to be made only in JV era.
Both Fender and Squier models with JV serial / series were only made from about mid 1982 thru 1984.

Fender Japan has been making some Les Paul scales on and off since they started to manufacture their guitars and basses in the mid 80's, but the most of the later models have smaller bodies contrary to this model with regular sized body.
This one has an "END ROX" bridge which locks the strings into place with Allen Wrench/Hex Key tightened HEX screws. These are situated on the underside of the bridge's tremolo block. This means the guitar is strung much like a Floyd Rose, however the strings pass through the bridge & tremolo block and are locked in place by winding around the posts of 6 hex screws (much like how one would tighten a wire in an electrical socket). If you don't need to lock the strings you can string the guitar in the usual manner.
These Japan built Squier models are not made anymore. Current Squier models made in China and Indonesia & elsewhere which may seem to be of lesser quality.)
A while back I had a chance to play a used Fender Japan Stratocaster. I was not familiar with Fender Japan models at the time but after this encounter I began to take an interest in Fender Japan guitars. I was surprised with the quality of the guitar but what impressed me most was its sound. It had bright sound and the higher range was very sharp but not harsh to the ear. I couldn't stop playing the guitar. I knew Fender Japan models of the JV era were appreciated but I thought they were overestimated until I purchased one not long ago for me to try it out.
Since then I tried a lot of both Fender Japan and Squier models made in and around the JV era and it has made me appreciate them as so many others do. Anyway the guitar is my favorite now! The Squier brand was Fenders second line with lower prices so they had more budget parts but the build qualities and the materials used were excellent.
My JV Stratocaster is not Fender but a Squier with all original budget parts but I really like the sound!!
I have read many websites written in English and in Japanese, but I could not find the answers to the following questions:
*difference of the spec between Squier export model and Squier Domestic model.
*difference of the wood material between Squier and Fender

!!!IMPORTANT!!!
++TERMS/CONDITION OF ITEM++
Please read the following items before bidding or purchasing. If you don't accept all of them then please do not bid or purchase. Condition of the item:
Almost all of the items in my store are not a brand new, but a used one, so they wont always be in "PERFECT" condition. This can be especially true of "VINTAGE" guitars/basses that have had many years of use and because of this they can sometimes have issues with playability, so for many reasons they may need care and maintenance before reaching an optimal playing condition. Please read the following detailed information that should always be considered when buying a used guitar/basses . *NeckNowadays a lot of guitar/basses players know the term "JV" (Japan Vintage) and that the values of guitars/basses made in and around the JV era are getting higher. I am glad and proud as a Japanese person that these guitars/basses were made by expert craftsmen with selected materials and I totally agree with the reputation that these guitars/basses have earned. However, in Japan, there is a significant humidity difference through the year which can have a bad influence on the materials in guitars/basses if they are not well kept & carefully maintained. Additionally these guitars/basses were often purchased by beginners or students and can tend to be poorly treated without ever having any maintenance. Sometimes they are stored away for ages after a very short period of use, as a result it is often the case that they have issue's about the neck. I have played guitar for many years and all the guitars/basses in my store were listed only after I checked & played them personally. All of the guitars/basses in my store passed the normal standards/my standards unless particularly stated otherwise.
However that does not mean "perfect" condition as most guitars/basses in the world have some issue be it a scratch or a break. Additionally, the pressure change, humidity change and change in temperature have a bad influence on the guitars/basses during the shipping or after arriving in your country so they may need some adjustment before playing. *FretsAs the guitars/basses are used the frets are worn more or less. I cannot say 70% or 80% left or something like that,,,,,because who can count the degree in a precise way? So please check the degree by the pictures. If the guitar needs refreting or if there is any defect with the frets (judging by my standards) it will be stated in the description.
*(Fret /String) BuzzI check the Fret (String) Buzz by picking normally, adjusting the bottom string height (E) to 2.80 mm and the top string height (G) to 2.3 mm
The bass are used, so slight buzz could occur. If the fret buzz of the guitar is above the normal standard, the detail is described in the description of the guitar.
Anyway, how you feel the fret buzz depends on the player, so any requests to settle repair fee is not accepted. *Cosmetic conditionAs the guitars/basses are used, they might have a number of dents, scratches, blemishes, chips and so on. Unless they are in mint or near mint condition, you cannot describe all of them, so please judge the condition by the pictures. *Electrical partsALL the electrical parts work fine unless there is a particular fault in which case it will be mentioned in the description, but they might have a slight scratchy sound. *Tax and dutiesAs stated above, the auction winner or the buyer is responsible for any and all applicable taxes and duties levied by their government.
Before placing a bid or clicking "Buy it now" button, please enquire with your local customs for detailed information.
*ReturnPlease check the guitar within two days of it being delivered to you.
If it differs significantly from the description I will accept the return.
Payment made for returned goods and the outward shipping fee you paid will be refunded to you within three business days after the guitar is returned and checked by me on received. Please note that any return freight charges, taxes &/or duties you pay for returning an item are not settled. *Insurance for transportationThe insurance of EMS would cover any damage, loss or the robbery/theft of an item during transportation.
